7pm Ride

Took a ride today into Central Phoenix, ate at a Vietnamese restaurant called Maxim, chicken and broccoli. En route, a golf cart decided to dart across the road near Encanto Park and I was able to stop quickly but the car behind me locked its brakes and slid to a stop behind me. Then, just thereafter, I entered to make a left hand turn and this other oncoming driver decided to do the same well after I was squarely in the turning lane. It's dangerous driving at all hours here in Phoenix.

Saw two interesting spots. One was a coffee shop called Way Cool near 16th street and McDowell and the other was a new Belgian restaurant called 35 on 7th street near the Drip Coffee place. This whole area is getting just better and better.

Relative Danger

Now back from Rio, I perceive the issue of danger around town a bit differently. In Rio, while for the most part things were safe because we kept to a certain set of areas, I believe if we were to have strayed from the area, we certainly would have gotten mugged or worse. So today, when I saw a man saunter across the road here in central Phoenix, challenging the cars to hit him, I thought how ridiculous he would be in Rio. He'd probably be killed! We don't realize the degree of safety we have here in this country relative to other places.
